  • Advice for new agents: Focus on the long-term game and get good at building a database so your listing pipeline never runs dry; surround yourself with people who are successful and get some mentors; have an attitude of gratitude in everything you do and be genuine about it
  • Overcoming challenges: Painted a very clear picture about what I wanted to achieve and everything that I do relates back to those core goals and values. When making a decision or working out how to overcome an obstacle I just ask myself the question, “Is this a match for my values and is this going to help me get closer to my goals?”. Also, learning to say “next”. You only have a certain amount of energy each day. You can use this energy to stay stressing about challenges or you can use this energy to work out a solution and use the challenge as an opportunity to grow. I prefer the second alternative.

  1. Be in the moment, listen attentively with compassion. When you really listen and care you are operating on a different frequency than when you are just trying to get the listing.
  2. Your only mission should be “How may I serve this client”.
  3. Don’t take losses personally. It is all for your highest good and learning.
  4. Have a balanced mind regardless of wins and losses, profit or loss, praise or criticism.
  5. Find time to exercise and eat a simple well balanced diet.
  6. Prospect – proactive marketing is not negotiable. 45 minutes at a time.
  7. Perfect your craft with training, mentors and good books.
  8. Know the numbers but don’t focus on them, focus on the actions.

  • Best piece of advice? If you can start your career underneath a successful, established agent (even if this means working as an assistant for a few years). Never feel like this is holding you back. The more training and learning you do at the beginning… the faster you find your way to the top. Create good habits early and focus on the numbers that count. Always be learning – always in all ways!
  • How do you overcome challenges in your business? I constantly try to step out of my business and evaluate. This distances excuses that crept in from your personal dialogue. I have worked hard to establish myself in a conservative market. I overcame being a reasonably young female by working on local knowledge until I had the runs on the board to ask for the business. I treat each and every meeting with the same care and attention to preparation. A vast proportion of my marketplace is Asian buyers. I overcame a difficulty in communication and negotiation by employing an incredible Chinese assistant who delivers what I believe to be industry best service to this market segment.
